
Gorilla Trekking Sectors In Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi impenetrable national park has got four trekking sectors namely Rushaga, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and buhoma sector.
Buhoma sector.
Buhoma sector is the most preferred by tourists planning to do gorilla trekking in Uganda due to its location. It is located in the Northern part of Bwindi in Kanungu district.
Trekking in Buhoma sector is can be combined with other activities like game drives in Ishasha sector, forest and community walks, and many more.
Gorilla families in the Buhoma sector.
Buhoma sector in habits 3 gorilla families namely the Mubare the oldest, Rushegura, and Habinyanja families which are habituated and ready for tourists.
Mubare is the oldest family with 9 members.
Habinyanja was habituated in 1997 and it has 17 members.
Rushegura was opened for tourism in 2000 and it consists of 19 members.
24 gorilla permits are issued daily for trekking in Buhoma sector.
Bird watching is a must-to-do activity in Buhoma sector plus a community walk in Batwa communities. Batwa were the first inhabitants of the forest.

Ruhija gorilla trekking sector in Bwindi impenetrable national park is a haven for 3 gorilla families namely Oruogo, Kyaguiro, and Bitukura. A gorilla family is supposed to be visited by 8 people a day and this makes only 24 permits available for willing tourists to trek in Ruhija sector.

Community projects visit. One can choose to visit community projects like basket weaving, and beekeeping which are put in place to help with the development of local communities. Your support will change someone’s life.
Birding. Bird lovers prefer trekking in the Ruhija sector since it also gives them a chance for bird sightings since it’s home to about 23 endemic birds which include yellow-eyed black flycatcher, hornbills, and grey bush shrike among others.

Nkuringo sector for gorilla trekking.
Nkuringo sector is located in the southern part of Bwindi impenetrable national park.
Nkuringo sector has one gorilla family with 19 members joined by Bushasho gorilla family from the Rushaga sector. It’s the only sector recorded with twin gorillas that were born in 2004.
Nkuringo sector is for fit tourists since it is located on high attitudes. A total of 8 tourists are allowed to trek the gorilla family a day.
Gorilla trekking in Nkuringo can be combined with birdwatching, cultural encounters, and hiking.

Rushaga sector has 5 gorilla families famous for being the only sector with gorilla habituation. Trekking in the Rushaga sector is an amazing experience away from home as you participate in activities like waterfall hikes, cultural encounters, and gorilla trekking in the sector with the highest number of mountain gorillas.
More permits are available for trekking in Rushaga every day compared to other sectors whereby you can also choose to take part in the gorilla habituation process

Gorilla trekking Permits in Uganda costs 700 USD and gorilla habituation costs 1500 USD for non-foreign residents, and 250,000 for African residents. Potters are available to help you during trekking at an added cost.
